Pr. Xavier SANTARELLI
CBMN/ENSTBB-Bordeaux-INP, Bordeaux, France
After his Biophysics PhD (1985) at Center for Molecular Biophysic CBM- UPR4301, Orléans, France, he worked 8 years in the industrial bioseparation engineering field. This experience in industrial engineering enabled him to actively participate in the creation of ENSTBB (Bordeaux School of Biotechnology) in 1994. He was the first teacher of this school as associate Professor (1994-2004). Since 2004, He is Professor and Director of Technology Transfer and Director of International Relations of the ENSTBB (2009- ….). He is currently Head of the research team: Structure and Activities of Biological Macromolecules at the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of Membranes and Nano-objects (CBMN) UMR 5248. He created in 2014 the Industrial Chair ʺEngineering bioprocessʺ with Bordeaux University Foundation and SERVIER, GPC Bio, MERCK Companies (2013-2016,) to develop the continuous bioprocessing (bioproduction linked to purification in a continuous mode during PhD). He is involved in different networks, such as the French Network of Bioseparation (SBCN), of which he is the President, and the French Federation of Biotechnologies (FFBiotech) as the secretary. He used to collaborate with different academic or industrial partners (Pall, Novasep) around the bioprocessing tools (ANR Tecklock Bioprocess, 2013-2016). At this time, he works on a project supported by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), the French Embassy in India, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of France and the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA), which is an Indo-French Challenge-oriented Call for proposals 2014: Oxidized HDL-Apolipprotein A1 as a risk predictor of cardiovascular disorders and development of novel diagnostics. This work is the result of an earlier cooperation that led to a co-supervised thesis defended in 2015 (Expression of wild type and variants of human apolipoprotein A-1 in Pichia pastoris) with CBST-VIT University, TN, India (Pr. M.A.VIJAYALAKSHMI & Pr. Krishnan VENKATARAMAN).
